Ongoing Search for Missing Soldiers

Two U.S. Army service members have gone missing during the annual African Lion military exercise in Morocco. They were reported missing near the Cap Draa Training Area, close to Tan-Tan, after a hiking incident where they are believed to have fallen from a cliff into the ocean.

U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) has launched a coordinated search and rescue operation involving multiple assets:

  • U.S. and Moroccan helicopters
  • Drones and naval vessels
  • Moroccan mountaineers and divers

The search is ongoing, and there is currently no indication of foul play. This incident highlights the risks involved in multinational military exercises, which typically involve around 5,000 troops from approximately 40 countries, including the U.S., Morocco, Ghana, Senegal, and Tunisia.
