Lucid Motors Cuts 18% Workforce Amid Market Challenges
Lucid Motors is laying off 18% of its workforce as part of a restructuring plan under new CEO Silvio Napoli. Discover how these cuts aim to position the company for future competitiveness in the cooling EV market.

Major Layoffs at Lucid Motors
Lucid Motors has announced a significant reduction in its workforce, cutting 18% of its employees, which translates to approximately 1,500 jobs. This decision comes just four months after a previous layoff of 12%. The new CEO, Silvio Napoli, stated that these measures are necessary to simplify operations and enhance the company's competitive edge in a challenging electric vehicle market.
The layoffs include full-time employees, contractors, and hourly production workers, with the company aiming to align production plans with anticipated demand. Lucid Motors is also eliminating its second shift of EV production at its Arizona factory, which is expected to generate annual savings of around $158 million. The restructuring is set to be completed by the third quarter of this year, with severance costs estimated at $32 million.
As Lucid prepares to launch its first mass-market vehicle, the Lucid Cosmos SUV, priced under $50,000, the company is also venturing into the autonomous vehicle space. However, the recent executive turnover raises questions about its stability and future direction.
