Cambridge South Station: A Game Changer

The long-awaited Cambridge South station is set to open on June 28, 2026, becoming the first station to feature full Great British Railways branding. Located next to Europe’s largest medical research center, the station will provide direct train services to London, Brighton, and Stansted Airport, significantly improving access for the 1.8 million expected annual passengers.

This £250 million investment aims to bolster the local economy, with the adjacent Biomedical Campus projected to contribute £18.2 billion to the UK economy by 2050. The station is expected to double the number of employees in the area to 40,000, enhancing job opportunities and regional growth.

Key features of the Cambridge South station include:

  • Up to nine trains per hour to central Cambridge.
  • Enhanced travel options for campus staff and visitors.
  • A modern, accessible design reflecting the excellence of the biomedical facility.

Rail Minister Peter Hendy emphasized the station's role in opening access to jobs and facilities, marking a significant step in the transformation of public rail ownership in the UK.
